Having seen Megadeth a few times in concert over the years, a sadness fell over me when I heard of Nick Menza's passing last week.  I even met him briefly once at a show and shook his hand and he was very humbled to have fans supporting his music.  An amazing drummer and a band that was very influential on me growing up.  He will be missed.  Here is the official press release on the passing of Nick Menza who was to have been a guest at this year's Comicpalooza:

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of former Megadeth drummer Nick Menza, who was scheduled to appear at Comicpalooza this year.

News broke this morning that Nick passed away last night after collapsing onstage during a performance of his band OHM. The cause of death is believed to be a heart attack. He was 51.

Nick was beloved for his work with the thrash metal band Megadeth, appearing on five of the band's studio albums during what's agreed to be Megadeth's classic period. During his career, Nick also worked with a wide range of bands and musicians, including John Fogerty, Marty Friedman, Christian Nesmith, Orphaned to Hatred and Deltanaut.

We at Comicpalooza are saddened and stunned at the news of Nick's passing. If there's any consolation to be had, it's found in the fact that he died while doing what he loved. The world is a little less awesome today. Rest in peace, Nick.
