Gene Selassie

Gene Selassie is an award-winning writer and filmmaker working across books, comics, journalism, film, and digital media. Author of published nonfiction titles including Avengers for Dummies and And How They Rumbled – The 80 Best Wrestling Bouts Over the Past 40 Years, with additional projects developed for major organizations including Google and Wylie Publishing. Creator of award-recognized comic storytelling, including the Ringo Awards-nominated series The Ghoul Agency, and contributor to the Eisner Awards-winning anthology Puerto Rico Strong. Known for delivering compelling, research-driven storytelling across multiple formats while maintaining rigorous editorial standards and production deadlines.

Gene's first foray with Wiley Publishing was writing Avengers For Dummies which released in September 2025. This book covers the history and pivotal moments throughout the lore of the franchise. Gene is working on his second book with Wiley Publishing with renowned wrestling journalist Bryan Alvarez. Professional Wrestling For Dummies will be released in the summer of 2026. And How They Rumbled was Gene’s first nonfiction book in which he covered the greatest matches of his first forty years of life. This book launched at number one in its category on Amazon. Gene’s comic book credits include a pulp horror story in Terminal; a story about an undercover cop, monsters and an underground wrestling promotion in Kayfabe; and a supernatural retelling of Alice in Wonderland in the Wild West in Elsewhere. However, his cyberpunk investigative thriller was his highest profile short story as it was featured in the anthology, Puerto Rico Strong, in which all proceeds went towards disaster relief in P.R. The book was nominated for the 2018 Diamond Gem Award. In addition to this, it won an Eisner Award and was also chosen by the National Council for Social Studies and the Children's Book Council for 2019's Notable Social Studies Trade Books for Young People.
