Titus Welliver is a multifaceted veteran of film, television, and theater. He’s currently best known as the titular character in the Amazon Prime Video hit series Bosch, where he stars as the tough and damaged LAPD detective from Michael Connelly’s best selling crime novel series now numbering over twenty installments. Bosch was the first hour-long drama produced by Amazon, spanning seven seasons and continuing into Freevee’s new spinoff series, Bosch: Legacy.
The son of a famous landscape artist Neil Welliver and fashion illustrator Norma Cripps, Welliver originally pursued painting at art school but eventually fell in love with acting and the theater. Welliver’s theater credits include David Mamet’s production of American Buffalo, as well as performances in Naked at the Coast Theater and Shakespeare’s Henry IV. Welliver has also appeared in Riff Raff, written and directed by Laurence Fishburne, which was performed at Circle in the Square Downtown in New York City.
Welliver is also known for numerous memorable television performances. Some fans will always connect Welliver with his role as one of the central figures in the mythology of the long-running ABC hit series Lost as the “The Man in Black.” Other fans may remember him from the role of Glenn Childs, Julianne Margulies’ foil in The Good Wife, and others may closely associate Welliver with the very dangerous Jimmy O’Phelan character from the FX network’s Sons of Anarchy. Welliver has also enjoyed a successful collaboration with legendary television producer David Milch, appearing in several of Milch's shows, including the critically acclaimed HBO series, Deadwood. Welliver’s other television credits are too numerous to list but include Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Suits, The Last Ship, The Mentalist, Chicago PD, and as a recent guest star in the Disney+ original series, The Mandalorian and also on HBO Max as Lex Luther in Titans.
In addition to television, Titus Welliver has given many extremely noteworthy performances on the big screen, including Frances McDormand’s gun-toting love interest in Gus Van Sant’s Promised Land and opposite Mark Wahlberg in Michael Bay’s Transformers 4: Age of Extinction. Welliver has also appeared in a number of actor/director Ben Affleck’s big-screen, directorial outings, including Gone Baby Gone, The Town, Live By Night, and Argo.
Welliver is also a notable fine artist whose paintings have been exhibited in several galleries, including the Frank’s Pictures Gallery and the 10 High Screen Gallery, and his print work can be seen in the Mezzanine Gallery at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. He can next be seen in the second season of Bosch: Legacy on Freevee.
